OUR TRAINERS
Mindy and J.R. McCaulley
Mindy and J.R. have owned Once Upon A Farm for over 25 years. They both have a passion for horses and the desire to pass that on to their students. Mindy is our main instructor who has a lifetime of riding and training experience including showing at the national level. She also has a degree in Elementary Education which enables her to plan her lessons according to how children learn. J.R. is our main trainer who has an extensive background in training young horses and excels in retraining off-the-track thoroughbreds for new careers.
LESSONS
PRIVATE AND GROUP LESSONS
Lessons are offered in one-hour and half-hour time slots for ages 5-adult
Most beginner riders will be private lessons until they are able to walk, trot, and steer independently. Group lessons consist of no more than 4 riders.
Expectations:
At each lesson the student is expected to help groom and tack up the horse they are riding that day. For beginner riders, this is part of the lesson. Once the student can accomplish this with minimal help, they should arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the lesson to get ready. After the lesson, the student is also expected to cool off and untack their horse.
What To Wear:
Students should wear long pants and boots or shoes with a hard sole and ½ inch heel. We have helmets here to borrow if you don’t own one. Please make sure the student is dressed appropriately for the weather including a heavy coat and gloves in winter. We do not allow opened toed shoes in the barn.
LESSON PRICES
Lessons can be purchased in 5 week or 10 week packages. If you buy a 10 week package, your 11th lesson is free! Payment can be made by cash, check or PayPal.

SUMMER CAMP
We are currently taking reservations for the 2026 summer camp season. We provide a horsemanship program for beginner through advanced riders ages 6 – 14. Our program offers the experience of horse ownership with an emphasis on horse care, riding, tack care, and more. All of this in a relaxed but safe environment.

HORSE BOARDING
Full or Training Board Offered
Full Board: $850
Includes one lesson per week.
Daily stall cleaning, bedding, and fresh water, Purina Strategy Healthy Edge grain fed twice a day, free choice hay, supplements fed if provided by owner, day/night turnout (weather dependent), blanketing and night check. Brand new covered arena! Owners live on premises.

Training Board: $1250
Full care that includes 3-5 training rides or lessons per week.
